SPFGA Outdoor Woman’s and Youth Programs (Clubhouse & Fish Pond)
September 7 @ 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Fishing 101
Amenities booked: Clubhouse and Fish Pond
The SPFGA Outdoor Woman’s Program (OWP) was developed to provide enriching educational experiences and engaging activities, all within a supportive and inclusive environment. Our goal is to empower women by offering a diverse range of activities, fostering a deep connection with nature, while cultivating skills that contribute to conservation efforts and the enjoyment of outdoor pursuits.
The OWP will consist of a series of sessions through the spring, summer, and fall of 2024, each focused on providing a direct hands-on experience with a different aspect of Canada’s rich cultural heritage of hunting, angling, trapping and the shooting sports.
The SPFGA Outdoor Youth Program (OYP) is grounded in the understanding that children and youth play a crucial role as future stewards of our planet. Through outdoor education initiatives, our Youth program aims to nurture responsible environmental stewardship. Research shows that engaging in outdoor activities significantly improves the mental well-being and happiness of young people, enriching their overall quality of life, and that outdoor experiences bolster physical, mental, and cognitive health, as well as enhancing problem-solving abilities. By fostering a deeper connection between youth and nature, this program seeks to enhance ecological literacy and cultivate conservation-oriented values and actions, essential for addressing current environmental and conservation challenges.
Through a safe and supportive learning environment, this will be comprised of sessions starting in May 2024.
Our September Outdoor Women’s Program session will be held in conjunction with our Outdoor Youth Program on Saturday, September 7, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.
OWP and OYP participants in the Fishing 101 session will learn about the different kinds of fisheries in Alberta, how to identify Alberta’s sport fish species, and the various tackle used to catch them. We’ll review the Alberta Sportfishing Regulations and how to interpret the harvest limits for different fisheries.
After the presentation in the clubhouse, we’ll head down to the fish pond with fishing rods & tackle to learn hands-on fishing techniques as we try to catch some rainbow trout in our Fish Pond.
Please note: the clubhouse & fish pond are booked exclusively during the duration of this session.
