SPFGA Naturalist Series – Amphibians and Reptiles of Alberta

May 11 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Natural areas and wetland areas offer more than just a retreat from the hustle of urban life; they serve as havens for a variety of wildlife, including frogs, toads, salamanders, and gartersnakes. Rural residents may not need to venture far from their own doorstep to encounter these fascinating creatures. Despite their often-overlooked presence, amphibians and gartersnakes play a crucial role in their local ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity, and adding a valuable dimension to our lives. Join Kris Kendell, a biologist with the Alberta Conservation Association, for an informative presentation about amphibians and gartersnakes inhabiting Strathcona County. During the presentation, you will learn how to accurately identify these captivating species and discover when and where to observe them in their natural habitats. Kris will also shed light on some of the conservation challenges they face, offering practical actions that can be done on your land or backyard to support these important animals.

Following Kris’ one hour presentation, session participants, together with Kris, will explore the different habitats where amphibians and gartersnakes can be found, and if conditions permit, there is the potential to encounter live amphibians or gartersnakes.
